Produktbeschreibung
The book analyses how Origen of Alexandria contributed to the political thought in antiquity. As in ancient political philosophy, ethical questions stand at the centre of Origen's reflections on politics and religion. From this perspective, the Christian philosopher, following in the footsteps of his Alexandrian predecessors Philo and Clement, addressess the freedom and responsibility of human beings, the notion of positive and natural law, concepts of war and peace, and the relationship between Christianity and the Roman State. Contrary to the widespread assumption that Origen was apolitical, the author demonstrates that, within the framework of ancient categories of thought, he developed a Christian political philosophy that set new standards and remains relevant to this day.
