Produktbeschreibung

This volume explores media representations of marginalized and vulnerable group identities in the Global South. It brings together a diverse range of critical, empirical, and reflective contributions from across the Global South, providing a rich, situated analysis of media narratives that shape and are shaped by gender, ethnicity, religion, migration, and identity politics. The chapters provide in-depth insights about media representation practices, drawing on case studies from countries such as Iran, Egypt, India, Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Mexico, Philippines, Iran, and beyond. Topics range from gendered representations in films and serials, trans and queer voices on social media, sectarian erasure, youth activism, and online misogyny to the policies of censorship, red-tagging, and media silence in reporting violence. The volume analyses the ethical, political, and cultural implications of media practices by examining both overt and subtle forms of misrepresentation, silencing, and resistance. It also makes a timely contribution to global debates on inclusion, voice, and justice in the contemporary media landscape. Drawing on feminist, decolonial, and intersectional perspectives, this volume provides an in-depth understanding of the complex relationships between media systems and marginalized communities. It also investigates the role of new media technologies in highlighting voices and resisting dominant narratives. This volume is significant reading for researchers, students, media professionals, and policymakers interested in media ethics, social justice, cultural studies, and communication in the Global South.
