Sustainable Innovation of Higher Education in Africa

The sustainability of higher education in Africa has become increasingly critical amid rapid technological advancement, rising demand for quality education, and the imperative for global engagement. As the continent's higher education systems confront evolving societal, economic, and environmental challenges, institutions must move beyond traditional models to embrace innovation and strategic transformation. This volume examines three interconnected pillars—digitalisation, internationalisation, and collaboration, demonstrating how they are reshaping the future of higher education across Africa. Drawing on diverse perspectives and empirical evidence, the chapters explore how these drivers can strengthen teaching, research, governance, and cross-border partnerships, while enhancing the sector's contribution to sustainable development. This book provides a timely resource for academics, researchers, policymakers, university leaders, higher education practitioners, and postgraduate students in higher education, educational policy, digital transformation, internationalisation, sustainability, and development in Africa.
