Cooperation between the USA and Southern Europe, 1945-1980s

This edited volume examines the diversity of relations between the countries on the northern shore of the Mediterranean and the United States from 1945 to the 1980s. It aims to reassess not only the processes of influence and collaboration in governmental policies, but also the role of actors and experts in less explored areas of international relations research, such as officers, assistance policies, companies, and foundations. In their contributions, the authors reveal the full complexity of a relationship marked both by the co-construction of interests, and by the competition between states, or sectors of society. The wide range of case studies presented allows us to rethink and reassess concepts such as spheres of influence, hegemony, and soft power.
