The Blue Rider

This engaging small series tells the story of an artist or artistic movement in an accessible and entertaining way, revealing everything you always wanted to know about them. Superb illustrations, documentary photographs, quick explanations, and numerous quotations paint a vivid picture of the people behind the art. At the beginning of the twentieth century, a group of artists came together in Munich to form the Blue Rider (Der Blaue Reiter), united by a shared ambition to renew art and society. The circle was named after the almanac edited by Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc. Along with the editors, Gabriele Münter, August Macke, Marianne von Werefkin, Alexej von Jawlensky, Vladimir and David Burliuk, Elisabeth Epstein and many others played important roles. Their groundbreaking works, extensive international connections and often unconventional ways of life established the Blue Rider as one of the most influential artists’ groups of the modern era.
