Bergman Obscure

This open access book presents a dozen academic essays that variously discuss obscure films by Ingmar Bergman, or hitherto hidden characteristics of his work. This collection features chapters on films that have often been overshadowed by the more celebrated masterpieces in his filmography, as well as chapters that highlight characteristics of his artistic production that have not yet the critical attention they warrant. The authors explore nuances of Bergman’s troubled mindset, the socio-political context that shaped his artistic vision, as well as filmic and semiotic elements of his work to create a novel perspective on the filmmakers oeuvre.
