“Exhibitions, Societies, and the Press: The Emergence of Color Photography in Britain, 1906-1932” re-evaluates Britain’s color photography ecosystem at the turn of the last century. As the inaugural volume in the "Histories of Color Photography" series, it deconstructs "heroic" milestones about inventions to reveal the collaborative, and at times competitive, networks of societies and journals that catalyzed the medium’s ascent and display at exhibitions. Drawing a wealth of primary sources and museum collections, this study traces the transition from chemical transparencies to viable tripack films along with their changing stakeholders. For historians of photography and science, and curators, it provides a meticulous inquiry into the infrastructures that birthed the color era.
