De Gruyter Handbook of Conflict Resolution and Planetary Peace

The central focus of this handbook is to explore pathways of intergroup conflict resolution and peace against the backdrop of current existential crises, drawing on knowledge and findings from diverse sources and perspectives. A hopeful theme is that there are alternatives to war and violence in intergroup relations and that humans can work together not only to resolve conflicts but to find viable solutions to shared concerns. The handbook addresses conflict in the broader context of the existential challenges of our time by exploring how coordinated global teamwork, nonviolent forms of conflict resolution, and alternatives narratives support prosocial dynamics from local to global levels. A central theme is that challenges today are not parochial issues but rather affect every person on the planet and the future of the species. As shared human problems, they are best addressed through cooperative approaches. This fascinating handbook will prove a valuable resource for anyone interested in how humanity can cooperate to solve regional and global problems that threaten humans and other forms of life on Earth.
