Nonreligion and Migration

Nonreligion and Migration provides in-depth studies of the (in)visibility of nonreligion in populations, migration policies, migration arrival infrastructures, and the media across the world. Based on a unique survey material, the book studies the diverse views nonreligious people have on immigration and other issues. It moves on to address how nonreligion is both visible and invisible in migration policies and arrival infrastructures. What are the ideals presented in public policy documents and are nonreligious migrants even considered? And what is the impact of state and institutional policies in shaping the reception and accommodation of nonreligious migrants in arrival institutions? Finally, the book analyzes how the media portray Ukrainian and Syrian refugees based on their assumed nonreligious and religious affiliations. The authors explore these pertinent issues in a comparative study of Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Norway, and the United States. The book offers new information about nonreligion in various areas related to migration and is highly relevant for scholars and students who have an interest in migration and the complexity of nonreligion and religion in contemporary society.
