Corpus Vitrearum Medii Aevi Deutschland / Die mittelalterlichen Glasmalereien in Unter- und Oberfranken

Das weiträumige, von Aschaffenburg im Westen bis nach Bayreuth im Osten reichende Gebiet der bayerischen Regierungsbezirke Unter- und Oberfranken mit den Kunstzentren Würzburg und Bamberg weist noch viele, oft nahezu unbekannte Glasgemälde des 14.–16. Jahrhunderts auf. Neben den großen Glasmalereibeständen in St. Veit in Iphofen und Maria Sondheim in Arnstein als Hauptwerken, beide wohl mit Würzburg zu verbinden, sind es die Klein- und Kleinstbestände an rund 30 Standorten, die in der Summe das Bild einer teils vom Mittelrhein, teils von Nürnberg und Prag künstlerisch geprägten Region entstehen lassen bzw. bestätigen. Frühe Sammlungen von Glasgemälden, die u. a. in Bamberg und Coburg entstanden sind, spiegeln dieses Bild wider.
The area of the Bavarian administrative districts of Lower and Upper Franconia, stretching from Aschaffenburg in the west to Bayreuth in the east, with the art centers of Würzburg and Bamberg, still has many, often almost unknown glass paintings from the 14th-16th centuries. In addition to the main works, the large stained glass collections in St. Veit in Iphofen and Maria Sondheim in Arnstein, the small collections at around 30 locations together create a picture of a region influenced artistically in part by the Middle Rhine and in part by Nuremberg and Prague. Early collections of glass paintings created in Bamberg and Coburg reflect this image.
