Der Band informiert über die weltweite Entwicklung der Geschichtsschreibung von den Anfängen (der Schriftlichkeit) bis zur Gegenwart und stellt sie im Spannungsfeld von Geschichtswissenschaft und Literatur dar. Dabei thematisiert er gattungsspezifische Fragen, etwa nach der identitäts- und sinnbildenden Funktion von Geschichtsschreibung, ihrem Bezug zu historischen Quellen oder den Mechanismen zur Erzeugung von Authentizität.
This volume explores the development of historiography around the world, from its beginnings (with the advent of writing) to today, presenting it within the interplay between literature and the discipline of history. It addresses genre-specific questions such as the identity-building and sense-making functions of historiography, its references to historical sources, and the mechanisms of producing authenticity.
