Preventing Sexual Violence in Elite UK Universities

Sexual violence is a widespread, yet poorly addressed, issue in UK universities, affecting a significant proportion of students--especially women and non-binary people. Grounded in feminist theory and student voices, this book explores how universities can better respond through prevention and education.

Drawing on a rich dataset of research in elite universities, it examines the everyday realities of sexual violence--from banter and groping to troubling attitudes toward consent--and critiques dominant behaviors like lad culture. Instead, it proposes a new model rooted in sexual ethics, citizenship and hybrid masculinities, offering practical, policy-relevant insights for creating safer university communities.
