Produktbeschreibung

This book is the product of the first systematic collaboration between scholars working on collective intentionality/team reasoning, and those working on Wilfrid Sellars’s practical philosophy. While scholars working on collective intentionality are typically aware of the existence of Sellars’s theory of collective intentions and morality, and of potential affinities with their field, the collective intentionality literature has thus far engaged only sporadically with the substance Sellars’s practical philosophical writings. This edited volume fills this lacuna. It is exclusively dedicated to exploring points of contact between Sellars’s practical philosophy and contemporary debates on collective intentionality. Included are chapters from Matthew Chrisman, Natalie Gold, Kirk Ludwig, Glenda Satne, Hans Bernhard Schmid, and Bill Wringe, who are all leading scholars in the field of collective intentionality and team reasoning, as well as Willem deVries – one of the most respected and accomplished living Sellars scholars – and Stefanie Dach, Kyle Ferguson, Jeremy Koons, Ronald Loeffler, Preston Stovall, and Heath White, who have all done important recent work on Sellars’s practical philosophy, including on his theory of collective intentions. The chapters are expanded and elaborated versions of papers presented at the workshop ‘Collective Intentionality, Normativity, and the Space of Reasons: Engaging Wilfrid Sellars’ held at Georgetown University in Qatar, Doha, on October 13-15, 2024. This volume is a foundation for continued engagement between these literatures and appeals to a wide range of students and researchers in these fields.
