Quantum True Random Number Generators

This book focuses on Quantum True Random Number Generators (QTRNGs), presenting a comprehensive and critical treatment of randomness generation and the certification of quantumness. A central objective is to address the widespread misconception that passing classical statistical randomness tests is sufficient to certify the quantum nature of a random number generator. The primary purpose of the book is to establish a rigorous framework for evaluating and certifying QRNGs. A central goal is to correct the misconception that standard statistical tests are sufficient to prove a device is ‘quantum’. The authors demonstrate that classical PRNGs and quantum sources often produce statistically indistinguishable outputs, meaning standard tests cannot certify the source of randomness, only its quality.
