Die Probabilisierung der Medizin

Im Zuge der Digitalisierung und des Einsatzes von Künstlicher Intelligenz (KI) ist derzeit eine Ausweitung der statistischen Nutzbarmachung in der Medizin zu beobachten. Die dabei generierten Wahrscheinlichkeitsfaktoren stehen jedoch im Konflikt zu kategorialen, an Krankheitseinheiten definierten Diagnosen und konkreten Therapiehandlungen. Unter Rückgriff auf Überlegungen des Philosophen und Medizintheoretikers Wolfgang Wieland führt Maximilian Kassai vor, warum diese Entwicklung der Probabilisierung innerhalb der ärztlichen Denkstruktur keineswegs neu ist. Die Arbeit zeigt ferner die Begrenztheiten statistischer Nutzbarmachung auf und soll damit einen Beitrag zu einer dringend benötigten medizintheoretischen Verortung von KI in der Medizin leisten.
In the wake of digitalisation and the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), we are currently witnessing a surge in the use of statistics in medicine. However, the probability factors generated in this process conflict with categorical diagnoses defined by disease entities and specific therapeutic measures. Drawing on the ideas of philosopher and medical theorist Wolfgang Wieland, Maximilian Kassai demonstrates why this development of probabilisation within the medical mindset is by no means new. The work also highlights the limitations of statistical utilisation. It is hoped that this dissertation will help to address the urgent need for a medical-theoretical framework for AI in medicine.
