Emetophobia: A Specific Fear of Vomiting

This open access book provides a compact treatment of emetophobia (fear of vomiting), that is, how to recognize and treat it. Emetophobia is a relatively unknown anxiety disorder among the general public and has received limited attention in research. However, many case reports have been published in the scientific literature and many psychotherapists are familiar with the condition as they frequently encounter persons with emetophobia in clinical practice. That is, emetophobia seems to impair daily functioning more than other specific phobias do and, thus, it more often requires treatment. Therefore, this book summarizes what is known about emetophobia from the relatively few original research studies that exist. It targets professionals such as researchers (e.g., in psychology or medicine) and practitioners (e.g., psychotherapists, psychiatrists) but also any other persons interested in the topic, including those affected.
