Die Homiletik beschäftigt sich mit der Kunst, so von Gott zu reden, dass andere in ihrem Glauben angeregt und bereichert werden; Rhetorik ist die Kunst, zu anderen so zu sprechen, dass ihre Freiheit befördert wird; Pädagogik ist die Theorie des Handelns, das die Verstehensweisen und Handlungsmöglichkeiten anderer vermehrt und Liturgik schließlich entwickelt Kunstregeln für die Gestaltung von Singen und Beten, Reden und Hören. Der Gottesdienst soll schön und die Predigt gut sein.Die evangelische Homiletik wird darum im Gespräch mit ihren Nachbardisziplinen dargestellt. Von herausgehobener Bedeutung ist die Theorie des Verstehens, die theologische Hermeneutik. Diese ist das Fundament aller homiletischen Theoriebildung. Homiletics deals with the art of speaking about God in such a way that others are inspired and enriched in their faith; rhetoric is the art of speaking to others in such a way that their freedom is promoted; pedagogy is the theory of action that increases others’ understanding and capacity for action, and liturgy, finally, develops artistic rules for the arrangement of singing and praying, speaking and listening. The worship service should be beautiful and the sermon good. Protestant homiletics is therefore presented in dialogue with its neighboring disciplines.
