Experiences of Nostalgia

This book is an original and provoking international collection of theoretical, analytical, and situated essays from different disciplinary and cultural perspectives that engage critically with nostalgia as home- and timesickness in troubled times. By bringing together media, memory, and nostalgia studies, the volume focuses on the functional relationship between media and nostalgia placing emphasis on social and historical inequities, climate change, media extractivism, and political polarization. Ranging from investigations into online communities, media art and archaeology, media industries and publics to political communication, vintage media collectors, and archives of the margins, the authors develop unsuspected viewpoints. To tackle nostalgic (be)longings as hybrid experiences, the volume comes forth with nuanced conceptualizations such as tropical or speculative nostalgia and works with scrutiny the repercussions of political, social, cultural, and technological change on our experiences of loss, grief, and hope.
