Produktbeschreibung

In this volume, "Dinoflagellata oligocaenica-miocaenica", of the "Catalogus Fossilium Austriae", organic-walled dinoflagellate cysts from the Oligocene and Miocene of Austria are documented. This volume contains not only published dinocyst taxa but also localities that were not previously published and taxa new to Austria. Represented by core and outcrop samples, dinocysts from 36 localities, covering the North Alpine Foreland Basin, the Vienna Basin and the Styrian Basin, are reported and described. Altogether, 201 species from 68 genera are documented. In relation to the genera, the respective type species, a short description and, where appropriate, remarks are provided. For species, a synonymy list is provided including the first description, all emendations, all reports from Austrian territory and, where applicable, selected occurrences in the Central Paratethys outside of Austria. The species descriptions include the type locality; identifying characteristics, including the most important characteristics of the Austrian specimens; dimensions of the Austrian specimens; the localities and stratigraphic ranges in occurrences in Austria; selected taxa occurring in the Central Paratethys outside of Austria and the global stratigraphic range. Short chapters deal with the study methods and the morphology and terminology of dinoflagellate cysts, which are briefly described and documented in several figures. For localities studied by the authors, species lists are documented in 18 tables. All species are documented on 68 plates, mostly with light microscope and scanning electron microscope photographs. Finally, the most important morphological terms are briefly explained in a glossary section.
