Contemporary Qur¿¿nic Hermeneutics

The fifth volume of the Handbook of Qur?anic Hermeneutics offers insightful contributions on contemporary approaches to interpreting the Qur?an. In recent times, the field of Qur?anic hermeneutics has become increasingly diverse and has undergone considerable change. Some scholars have questioned traditional methods and adopted innovative approaches. The once-dominant notion of center and periphery in the Muslim world has become somewhat obsolete, as different Islamic centers now influence each other in a dynamic cycle of cross-fertilization. This volume presents key aspects of contemporary Qur?anic hermeneutics, including contextual pluralism, the incorporation of Western concepts, feminist exegesis, methodological innovations, religious pluralism, the impact of new media, and the role of Qur?anic interpretation in shaping Islamic identity in a global context.
