Movimiento deíctico, polisemia y gramaticalización

Este libro monográfico aborda la evolución semántica de los verbos llevar y traer en la historia de la lengua española desde una perspectiva cognitivo-funcional y basada en el uso. Con datos extraídos del Corpus del Diccionario Histórico de la Lengua Española , se analizan los cambios semánticos mediante los cuales traer y llevar llegaron a conformar una pareja de verbos deícticos de movimiento, así como las extensiones semánticas que posibilitaron la formación de una rica polisemia léxica. Se estudia, además, su gramaticalización en la construcción causativa de infinitivo (p. ej., el miedo les llevó/trajo a huir ) y, en el caso del verbo llevar , en la perífrasis verbal continuativa llevar + gerundio (p. ej., llevo dos horas esperándote ). Los resultados del análisis muestran que la evolución semántica de llevar y traer está condicionada, por un lado, por la necesidad de preservar la coherencia semántica interna de cada verbo y, por otro lado, por la tendencia a mantener relaciones paradigmáticas eficientes con otras unidades léxicas. Asimismo, esta investigación muestra que los conceptos y las estructuras semánticas vinculadas al movimiento ocupan un lugar central en la cognición y el lenguaje humanos. El libro ha recibido el Premio de investigación CIE-USAL para tesis doctorales en Lengua Española y Lingüística 2024/2025.
This monograph explores the semantic evolution of the verbs llevar and traer in the history of the Spanish language from a cognitive-functional and usage-based perspective. Drawing on data from the Corpus del Diccionario Histórico de la Lengua Española , it analyzes the semantic changes through which traer and llevar came to form a pair of deictic motion verbs, as well as the semantic extensions that enabled the development of rich lexical polysemy. The study also examines their grammaticalization in the causative-infinitive construction and, in the case of llevar , in the continuative verbal periphrasis llevar + gerund . The results of the analysis show that the semantic evolution of llevar and traer is conditioned, on the one hand, by the need to preserve the internal semantic coherence of each verb and, on the other hand, by the tendency to maintain efficient paradigmatic relations with other lexical units. Furthermore, this research demonstrates that concepts and semantic structures related to motion occupy a central place in human cognition and language. The book has been awarded the CIE-USAL Research Prize for doctoral dissertations in Spanish language and linguistics for the 2024–2025 academic year.
