The Pan-African ‘Charter for African Cultural Renaissance’

Das Buch widmet sich dem postkolonialen Erhalt von Kulturerbe und Fragen der Restitution von Sammlungsgut aus kolonialen Kontexten an afrikanische Ursprungs- und Herkunftsstaaten im Rahmen der panafrikanischen „Charter for African Cultural Renaissance“. Analysiert werden die Entstehungsgeschichte der Charta, die 2020 in Kraft trat, und ihr facettenreicher Inhalt. Dabei werden die Rolle der Afrikanischen Union und ihrer Mitgliedstaaten sowie der UNESCO bei der Umsetzung gewürdigt, auch im Rahmen der „Global Priority Africa“.
This book focuses on the postcolonial preservation of cultural heritage and the return of colonial artefacts to African countries of origin within the framework of the Pan-African Charter for African Cultural Renaissance. It analyses the history of the charter, which came into force in 2020, and its multifaceted content. In doing so, it acknowledges the role of the African Union and its member states, as well as UNESCO, in its implementation, particularly within the ‘Global Priority Africa’ framework.
