Cognitive Translation Studies

This book draws on the cognitive linguistic theories to probe into the cognitive mechanism of text comprehension, transformation and text production involved in translation process. It offers cognitive accounts of the semantic, grammatical, pragmatic and cultural issues, and constructs theoretical models on the wide range of topics including categorization, conceptual metaphor and metonymy, polysemy, iconicity, subjectivity, frame, construal, conceptual integration, relevance, and textual cognition in translation. It presents a more inclusive cognitive linguistic approach to translation studies, especially theoretical modeling of translation process, translational cognition, and the cognitive mechanism underlying the linguistic shifts and translation strategies, with detailed analysis on different types of translation cases.
